Hockey Teams from Universities in Ohio

The professional league of hockey NHL (National Hockey League) comprises teams from Canada and the United States of America. The best and winning team gets the greatest achievement of this sport, the Stanley Cup.

Stanley Cup Red Leaf

The history of the worldly famous Stanley Cup dates back to 1892 when Lord Stanley of Preston bought a mold to make a drink for ten guineas ($50 of the time) to bestow it on the league’s best ice Hockey team.

And since then, every time the cup is delivered to the winning team, this team has to meet the following three kinds of weird rules:

  1. The winners keep the cup until the next year, which is when they have to deliver it to the next winner.
  2. Each winning team must record its name (and that of its players) and the year of victory in the same cup.
  3. The final and most important rule – the Cup will never be owned by the team but by the championship.

These three rules have caused the cup to undergo various changes, modifications, and even disappearances, generating stories of the most peculiar kind.

As mentioned in the rules above – each year you have to record new names, the Cup has grown to the size of astonishing 89.54 centimeters and weighs around 15.5 kilos.

We don’t know how many years the NHL will last, but in time, if this rate continues at the same pace, the Cup will eventually become as high as the worldly famous Toronto CN Tower.
