Mission Statement

The Ohio University Hockey Hall of Fame recognizes selected players, coaches or persons who have demonstrated meritorious service making a long lasting impact on the hockey program at Ohio University.

Process

Nominees are divided into three categories, players, coaches, and meritorious service.

Former players, coaches of program administrators may make nominations for enshrinement into the hall. Blue Line Booster members and friends of the Ohio Hockey program are also welcome to submit nominations to the hall of fame.

A document, no longer than 750 words, detailing why the nominee is worthy of induction must include player/coach statistics or specific examples of service supporting the nomination. The document is submitted to the academic advisor of the hockey team.

No more than three inductees will be selected each year prior to the annual alumni weekend. The inductee(s) will be announced and presented with a small award before the puck drops of the Saturday night home hockey game and Hall of Fame Weekend.

Nominees not selected will remain in a selection pool for consideration in subsequent classes with repeated nomination recommended.

Suggested criteria for selection are as follows:

Players

  • Players become eligible five years after graduation (required).
  • Played hockey a minimum of two years at Ohio University and be a graduate of Ohio University (required).
  • Player nominations should consider but are not limited to the following accomplishments:
    • All-American, All-League, and Honorable Mentions
    • National or League Tournament MVP
    • Academic All-American or All-League
    • Exhibited leadership by serving as Captain or Alternating Captain

Coaches

  • Coaches are eligible five years after the completion of their coaching tenure at Ohio University (required).
  • Consideration should be given to coaches that have earned but are not limited to the following accomplishments:
    • Coached at least three years at Ohio University (required).
    • A winning percentage of 70% or greater.
    • National and/or league Coach of the Year ear recgonition.

Meritorious Service

  • The nominee of this service award must have demonstrated significant exemplary service and contributions to the growth and development of the Ohio University hockey program.
  • Meritorious service nominees shall have volunteered their time, expertise, or resources to the hockey program from a minimum of three years.

Selection Committee:

  • Current advisor to the Ohio University Hockey Team -
  • Current Coach of the Ohio University Hockey Team -
  • President of the Blue Line Boosters or Past President -
  • Representitive from the Dean’s Office
  • Former Player – Alumnus
  • Former program administrator – Advisor, Timer, GM, etc.
Current members of the selection committee meeting the selection criteria and nominated for induction will dismiss themselves from the selection process

The selection committee must meet with at least two-thirds of the members. The decision to induct a nominee must be unanimous among committee members.

The current advisor of the Ohio University Hockey Team is responsible for forming, Setting up meetings and adjourning the committee each year.

Recognition and Funding

  • The hall will be located in Bird Arena and administered by the Facility Director of Bird Arena.
  • Plaque (with picture) to be located in the upstairs mezzanine after induction.
  • Funding will be provided through an endowment account in conjunction with Campus Recreation to pay for the plaque and game night award.
