
Eight senior salute on Saturday
The Bobcats will tangle one more time under the lights of
Bird Arena this season. This
weekend the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League Champion, Adrian, comes to
town for a pair of contests. Both
puck drops are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the Ohio Hockey celebrates Senior Night, where
the club will bid adieu to eight young men who’ve been staple of the program
during their tenure in Athens.
Zach Tisdale – Forward
From Pleasantville, Ohio, Tisdale has brought a physicality to the team ever time he’s stepped onto the ice. One of three assistant captains, he’s racked up 18 points this season with 10 goals and eight assists. Through his four regular seasons in Athens, he’s notched 100 career points. His game-winning goal in overtime against Robert Morris lifted the Bobcats to another berth in the CSCHL Tournament Finals last Saturday.
Jared Fuhs - Forward
One of several Bobcats from the Pittsburgh area, Fuhs’ role has blossomed as a member of the Bobcat blue liners. He was named an assistant captain this year and the lone defender to earn the title. His 30 career points in the regular season are topped off by this year where he’s hung four goals and nine assists. Coupled with his brother, Jim, this marks the last of eight straight seasons of a Fuhs in a Bobcat uniform.
Michael Schultz - Forward
Ohio’s captain has put together a memorable four-year span. From Aurora, Ohio, Schultz has anchored the Bobcats’ offensive attack from the get go. Staking his claim to lead the team in scoring for the third straight year, he’s tallied 56 points thus far. That effort comes from 29 goals and 27 assists. Always a headache for defenders, he’s quickly approaching the all-time point record in Ohio University program history currently held by Dan Morris.
Zack Barbis –Defenseman
A member of Ohio’s top line, top penalty kill, and top power play units, Barbis has solidified himself as a rock of the Bobcats’ defensive efforts. Balancing hockey life with chemical engineering coursework, Barbis has gone on to lead all defenseman in scoring with nine goals and 15 assists. Hailing from Mentor, Ohio, he’s compiled 102 career points in four regular seasons.
Jay Mazzarella – Forward
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, the Bobcats' lucky number 13 has also asserted himself as a reliable part of the team's offense. Mazzarella has picked up five goals and six assists this season in 21 appearances. The former Saint Ignatius Wildcat has picked up 19 total points over last three regular seasons.
Jeremy Browning – Forward, Assistant Coach
One of two Illinois skaters on the club, Browning has seen the view from both sides in his senior campaign. He played throughout the fall portion of the 2011-2012 season, notching three scores and three assists in 23 games. He then made the transition behind the bench and became and assistant for head coach Dan Morris for the remainder of the year. Through four years, he’s totaled up 11 goals and 15 dishes in regular season play.
Josh Fodor – Forward
Another Bobcat from the Steel City, Fodor has remained a consistent contributor to Ohio’s offense. In three regular seasons, he’s compiled 100 points. He’s established himself as the fifth overall point leader on the team this season with a 13-goal, 16-assist effort. He delivered one of the biggest strikes this season with his shootout winner against Iowa State on November 19th.
Jake Holzemer – Defenseman
In a host of Bobcats from the Toledo area, Holzemer has been one of the most reliable Ohio blue liners. In three seasons, he picked up 45 points between17 goals and 28 assists. After being injured against West Virginia, Holzemer made his return for the CSCHL Tournament. He notched an assist in the first round against Kent State and helped lead Ohio to wins over the Golden Flashes as well as Robert Morris.
